The Logic of Automatic Calculation: How CimpactPro Calculates Direct Emissions
Summarize this article with Artificial Intelligence

How are Direct Emissions Calculated?

After entering fuel consumption data into CimpactPro, you may be wondering how the system converts this data into a carbon footprint result. The software uses a reliable and transparent mathematical basis based on international standards. So, what is the method behind this "magic" calculation?

What Methodology Does the Software Use to Calculate Direct Emissions Using Fuel Consumption Data?

The software adopts the "calculation-based method" as the basis for its direct emissions calculations. This method reduces complex processes to a simple and verifiable formula.

The process works as follows:

The amount of fuel that you, the user, enter into the system (e.g. 100 cubic meters of natural gas) is called "Activity Data" in the literature. The system takes this data and automatically matches it with the internationally recognized "Emission Factor" defined in the background.

Essence of the Formula: Activity Data and Emission Factor

We can summarize the basic logic of the calculation with the following formula:

Emission = Activity Data (AD) x Emission Factor (EF)

In other words, the system multiplies how much you consume (AD) by how much carbon that fuel emits per unit (EF).

Of course, technical multipliers such as the oxidation factor or net calorific value can be introduced in the background to increase the precision of the calculation. However, even if all these details change, CimpactPro is based on this reliable data-driven calculation method.
