No, greenhouse gases are not the same as carbon footprints. Greenhouse gases are gases that trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere. A carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere as a result of the activities of an individual, a business or a society.
Greenhouse gases are gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O), water vapor (H2O) and ozone (O3). These gases trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere, causing our planet to warm up.
The carbon footprint shows the amount of these greenhouse gases, that is, how much heat is trapped. The carbon footprint is measured in tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e).
