What are the scopes in GHG and what do they mean?
The GHG standard divides GHG emissions into the following three scopes:
Scope 1: Emissions under the direct control of an entity. This includes emissions resulting from the entity's own activities. For example, emissions from a factory's own fuel use are scope 1 emissions.
Scope 2: Emissions that are under the indirect control of an enterprise. This includes emissions from the energy used by the business. For example, emissions from electricity used by a factory are scope 2 emissions.
Scope 3: Emissions under the indirect control of an enterprise. This includes emissions from other parties to the activities of the business. For example, emissions from the transportation of products produced by a factory are scope 3 emissions.
